Paul Arriola and Luciano Acosta scored just before halftime and just after, respectively, to put D.C. United up 2-0 over reigning Major League Soccer champion Atlanta United during their 2019 season opener Sunday night.
Arriola scored the opening goal during first-half stoppage time, a shot into the left side of the net. Acosta and Wayne Rooney were credited with assists. See a replay of that goal above. Acosta then grabbed his own goal in the 58th minute, when he fired from the top of the box and the ball took a quick bounce to evade Atlanta goalkeeper Brad Guzan. See a replay of Acosta’s goal, assisted by Lucas Rodriguez and Junior Moreno, below. At the time of this post, the score remained the same in the 75th minute.
