Arriola started United’s fourth preseason game against Orlando, but he had to leave the field in the 30th minute. United is waiting for further medical examination before sharing additional information, but the Washington Post’s Steven Goff reported the injury is a suspected anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) tear.
United won the game 1-0 against Orlando thanks to a goal from Loudoun United defender Michael Gamble in the 77th minute.
After spending January with the United States men’s national team, Arriola joined D.C. United for the second portion of preseason that included training in D.C. last week before this trip to Clearwater, Fla.
Arriola was a regular starter for United in 2019. During his 28 starts last season, he recorded six goals and two assists. He was versatile threat for the team. Arriola played as a winger, right back and — toward the end of the season – -in the No. 10 role.
Fellow United midfielder Russell Canouse took to social media to show his support for Arriola after the game, sharing a picture of the two players on his Twitter with the caption, “Please send your prayers to my brother.”
