COLUMBUS, Ohio — The Columbus Crew now know their schedule for the 2020 MLS season.
After the home games were leaked on Facebook events, the full schedule was posted on ESPN before the official announcement from MLS.
For the first time in the history of the league, not every team will play one another due to an imbalance of teams in the Eastern and Western conferences. This year, the Crew will not play the Los Angeles Galaxy, LAFC or the San Jose Earthquakes.
Not having to travel to California could be a good thing for Columbus, as the team is 13-26-8 all time on the road against the three teams.
Crew fans will be circling their calendars for the second year of the “Hell Is Real” derby with FC Cincinnati. Cincinnati hosts the first leg on Sunday, July 19. Columbus will host the finale on Saturday, Aug. 22.
Perhaps the toughest stretch of the schedule for Columbus will be at the start of August, where they play three road games in 12 days. Aug. 1 they play DC united, then Toronto FC on Aug. 8, and NYCFC on Aug. 12. The club then returns home on Aug. 15 to play the New England Revolution. All four of those teams made the eastern conference playoffs in 2019.
The final Crew home game of the year will be Sept. 19 against the New York Red Bulls. The final game of the regular season will be Oct. 4 against expansion squad Inter Miami FC.
