Fanendo Adi will soon return to the pitch with FC Cincinnati. Major League Soccer reinstated the forward Wednesday night after previously suspending him following a citation for impaired driving.
“Adi was assessed by Substance Abuse and Behavioral Health (SABH) program doctors and was subsequently cleared to resume team activities,” the league said in a statement. “Additionally, Major League Soccer conducted an independent review of the incident and has cleared him to play.”
The reinstatement came one day after Adi pleaded guilty to a lesser charge of Reckless Operation, as first reported earlier Wednesday by Pro Soccer USA. Ohio State Highway Patrol originally pulled over and cited Adi for Operating a Vehicle While Impaired (OVI), along with speeding and not possessing a valid license, at 3:45 a.m. the morning of March 31.
Adi missed three matches total while suspended. FC Cincinnati next travels to play the New York Red Bulls at 7 p.m. ET Saturday.
