After a high-intensity road win in Vancouver that featured two goals for LAFC, the expansion club was bound to take home an MLS Goal of the Week nomination. Once again, it’s Carlos Vela earning the nomination for the third time this season.
His strike came in the 58th minute with the score leveled 0-0. Vela gathered a pass at the top of the box and hesitated only a second before launching a shot on goal. The stunner soared across the box, curling effortlessly into the top left corner. Vela looked pleasantly surprised when the ball struck the net, spreading his arms with wide eyes as his teammates rushed to leap on him in celebration.

Even the Whitecaps tipped their hats to the goal after the game’s conclusion.
Gotta give credit where credit is due. That was a heck of a strike from Carlos Vela and a strong outing from @LAFC. See you guys on October 21. pic.twitter.com/vUywGpswFV

The MLS Goal of the Week is decided by fan voting, and LAFC fans turned out in droves for the first day to support Vela. The team joked on Twitter that the polls had been broken by fans eager to see Vela win his first Goal of the Week distinction after multiple nominations. Fans still wishing to vote can do so here.
