ATLANTA — The 2018 Major League Soccer season came to an end Saturday night with a flurry of red confetti and champagne showers in the home team’s locker room. Atlanta United capped a dream season with a 2-0 MLS Cup victory over the visiting Portland Timbers, sending Five Stripes’ coach Gerardo “Tata” Martino off to lead the Mexican national team with a big, shiny trophy of a memory.
“If I had to choose a way to leave somewhere, this is the best way,” Martino said during postgame interviews at Mercedes-Benz Stadium.
