One of the anchors of the Atlanta United back line is moving from Major League Soccer to Liga MX.
On Friday, the Five Stripes announced the sale of center back Leandro Gonzalez Pirez to Club Tijuana, a move that was reportedly in the works for the last week.
“We appreciate what Leandro has contributed to the club over the last three years and we wish him the best of luck in his future,” Atlanta United vice president and technical director Carlos Bocanegra said.
A transfer fee was not made public in the club’s press release thanking the 27-year-old Argentinian center back for his three years of service.
Gonzalez Pirez made 95 appearances for Atlanta during his tenure in which he helped the club secure the 2018 MLS Cup, 2019 U.S. Open Cup and 2019 Campeones Cup.
