ATLANTA — It’s ring season. Three months after their Major League Soccer Cup win over the Portland Timbers, Atlanta United players received championship jewelry at the team’s training ground in Marietta, Ga. Atlanta United Club president Darren Eales handed out the rings, as well as a retrospective book titled Conquered, in a private ceremony Thursday.
Each memento is made of 10-karat white and yellow gold and bedazzled with 101 white diamonds that “create a waterfall effect on the ring top,” according to a press release from the club. Another 14 yellow diamonds form an “A” that sits atop five red and black stripes fashioned out of black onyx and garnet stones. Further details, per the announcement:
“Yellow gold train tracks wrap around the top and bottom of the ring edges representing Atlanta’s railroad history. The tracks are accented with a single diamond and ruby at either side of ring top, representing the two years of franchise history. Completing the ring top are the words “MLS Cup Champions” accented with a star, symbolizing the 2018 MLS Cup Championship.
“The right side of the ring features the club name set in yellow gold above the Atlanta skyline. The MLS Cup sits in the center of the city skyline, with the word “Conquered” boldly set upon the trophy. The championship year date of 2018 completes the right side of the ring.”
The club’s official slogan, “Unite & Conquer” is spelled out in yellow gold above the recipient’s name on the left side of each ring. The right side reads “United” and features a golden spike and the player’s number set with diamonds. The interior includes the date of Atlanta’s MLS Cup triumph, Dec. 8, 2018, the final score of the match, 2-0, and the phrase “5-Stripes Don’t Stop.”
Those who want to add to their collection of Atlanta United memorabilia and have a little money to spend are in luck. A fans’ version of the ring is available online for $10,017 , though there are cheaper options, too. Conquered will go on sale at the Five Stripes’ official team stores at Mercedes-Benz Stadium and Atlantic Station this Saturday, March 16, for $39.95
