Team Nemeziz kicked off Day 2 of matches at the MLS Player Combine by scoring three unanswered goals for a 3-1 victory over Team X Monday at Orlando City Stadium.
Hartford centerback Andre Morrison gave Team X a fourth-minute lead when he struck a volley into the upper-left corner of the net. The goal came after Clemson forward Jason Wright controlled a free kick his teammate sent into the box and tapped the ball to Morrison.
But Team Nemeziz equalized moments later in the 13th minute when Brian White scored from the penalty spot.
Issaka Nyemewero’s goal in the 36th minute gave Nemeziz the lead. A run from Mohamed Thiaw of the University of Louisville connected with Nyemewero for a close-range header and a 2-1 lead.
Indiana University and Generation adidas forward Mason Toye helped close out the game for the winning side, setting up Marcelo Acuña to slot the ball past the Team X goalkeeper in the game’s final minutes.
“Looking at the game after the first half, we had to trace the game in the second half and move the ball better to secure a better performance,” Morrison told Pro Soccer USA. “I scored a goal in the first half, but the second half was better for the team overall. I’m just trying to play my game, and helps others as well and communicate with my teammates.”
The MLS Player Combine concludes on Wednesday at Orlando City Stadium when Team X takes on Team Predator at 10 a.m. Team Tango takes on Team Nemeziz at noon.
